The time is getting closer for Pakistan as a democratic nation to go for the vote in the general elections on Wednesday. There always is a huge question on Pakistan being really being a democratic country in the practical sense? Rather Pakistan due it’s course democratic history always accused to be a military state, the terror state comprises in all in one its seen as a failed state.
But there is no end of hopes and when in the situation where Pakistan label as a nation where military overrules the government and terrorist organisations play a role in framing policies, Pakistan as a democratic nation will hope for some big change or maybe a drastic change in lives of common Pakistan. Pakistani elections always a festive occasion with various unpredictable, strange twists and turns and this also no different.
One of them is the disqualification of PM Nawaz Sharif in the corruption charge just before the elections and then drama unfolds where he returned from London on 13th July with his daughter and sends to the prison for 7 years after the section by the Supreme Court. No matter he is in Jail during the election time but he still the de facto leader of Pakistan Muslim League(PML) and having his vote bank on sympathy and presence in the polls,
Other side of the coin there is World Cup winner turned politician Imran Khan leading his party Pakistan Tahreek- e insaf (PTI) on its way of campaigning on their single-party agenda in which Imran Khan is the most popular among the people who fed up with corrupt nature of previous governments and now wants a new alternative and hope for the change
Also, there is Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in which standing tough in between to extreme parties I discussed earlier, PPP in past was led by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, then by his Daughter Benazir Bhutto but after was her assassination in 2007 party was handover to his husband Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal. In today scenario party lose the trust in among Pakistani people and now seen as the third rank party in the country Politics, mainly strong in their home i.e Sind Province. In earlier days PPP was the leading party in Pakistan politics but still, PPP definitely active and useful for other two parties PLM and PTI as collision partner.
In the Incoming Wednesday poll, there are two vital challenges for Pakistan to take seriously. First is the now other nations in the global scenario feeling pride on their democratic structure, they keep on improving the function and structure of their governments that leading to great trust between the government and the people.
But this not happened in Pakistan where lack of commitment and transparency of the governments cost the overall development process of a lot and till the time that transparency and commitment and maturity in the democracy not come Pakistan cannot get the global acceptance of being really a democratic country, when they go for vote minds in Pakistan have to keep this lesson with them.
This election could see a big opportunity to really showcase and turn itself into democracy in a practical sense not theoretical, it also an opportunity for people for Pakistan who really in need of development in terms of health, education job opportunity rather than voting on the repeated agenda of which have government will have supposed to deal more good or bad with India or Kashmir. They have to really stand up should try to remove that tag of from their Country head of being a “failed state.
