What You Should Do This Summer

The month of March is almost drawing to a close and the summer is dawning upon us. Well, for most of us, the summer always brings about images of a long, lazy vacation. As Regina Brett believes, “Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something.  Or to lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds. ” But instead of the usual ‘do nothing except daydream’ summer, you could use summer to make something out of yourself. Look at what you can do this person to make yourself a better person this summer.

Internship: Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Internships are essentially a short insight into your future career, a short phase of learning where you learn the reality behind the glamour of a field. You get the experience of being a professional while you are allowed to make a few mistakes. In fact, for many highly practical, one month-long internship sometimes give you more insight than the whole of your education. So, send a few emails, impress a few officials, make a few resumes and get yourself an amazing professional internship. Believe me, your life will only go uphill after it.

Skills: No matter where and how you dream about reaching in life, you will need skills to endure the journey. As Will Smith says, “No matter how talented you are, your talent will fail if you’re not skilled.” With the advent of modernization, these days there are multiple ways through which you can pick up important skills. You could take up your choice of course that online platforms have come to offer. Or you could choose to take a traditional route and attend a summer school on a subject of your choice. If this takes too much commitment, you could indulge in a series of practical based workshops, which will basically make you the jack of all trades (and master of quite a few).

Volunteering: If both of these sound too professional and sordid for you, you could use this time off to contribute something towards reducing the insanity of the world you live in. Choose a cause you are most connected to (and would want to dedicate your time and efforts to) and volunteer towards making the society better. These days, you get short-term volunteer opportunities in all the corners of the world, which means that you could travel the world while making a difference to people’s lives. You could save two birds with one stone!

So, sacrifice your comforts for one summer and try one of these options out. Throw laziness out and see your pitiful life change into something magical.
