We Owe It To Environment

Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the continents and the oceans of the world
united we stand as flora and fauna
united we stand as species of one earth
black, brown, white, different colors.

we are humans, the earth is our home.
Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the people and the nations of the world
all for one and one for all
united we unfurl the blue marble flag
black, brown, white, different colors
we are humans, the earth is our home.

The lines mentioned above are the words penned by Sir Abhay K, a renowned personality. These lines are just not the words merely, these are the verse from the Earth Anthem, that is sung every year to celebrate the World Environment Day.

The biggest annual event that steps towards the optimistic course of actions favoring the environment celebrates the World Environment Day, WED, on June 5. United Nation’s principal aim that focuses on spreading awareness and encouraging people for environment protection. WED, first held some four and a half decade ago in the year 1974 has since its inauguration  been a flagship campaign to raise the awareness on the emerging environmental issues due to the reasons following:
*marine pollution
*human overpopulation
*global warming
*sustainable consumption
*wildlife crime

WED has now become a global platform to outreach people to help in protecting the environment with over 143 countries participating in the event annually. The WED was established in the year 1972 by the Un General Assembly as a result of the discussions on the issue of integration of human interactions and the environment. With the aim to drive positive actions for nature, there has been a particular theme and city decided for the WED celebrations, and the theme for the year 2k18 titles, “BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION” and the destined city is New Delhi, India.

The theme this year is to reduce the use of single-use and disposable plastic. The world witnessed a new step in the favor of environment this year when Nagaland joined the rest of the country that observes the WED. Nagaland Chief Minister also announced the target set by the Nagaland Government that aims at making the state plastic free by December. He also listed the harmful effects of polythene bags on the environment.

Not just Nagaland, the country also witnessed the decision of banning the single-use plastic bags like polythene bags and plastics. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in the Assembly announced the decision. The state has already banned the production of plastic bags below 50 microns.

Also, Himachal Pradesh witnessed the ban of thermocol plates which have been a major cause of pollution. The state’s CM Jai Ram Thakur also announced the distribution of steel bottles in all the government schools to discourage the plastic usage.

All the government official including PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind use the social handles to wish and reaffirm the aim of making the nation pollution free.

Not just the government officials owe the responsibility to make the world a clean and green place to live. We, the citizens are equally responsible to do so. So, make sure that you take every single step possible to help the environment stay green and clean keeping in mind the fact that there are millions working every second hard to pollute the place that you live in but, there are hardly a few who have guts to move out of the league and work to protect the environment. Now, the decision is yours, which group do you want to join. The one that has been working to decorate the nature or the one that is ready to make every attempt possible to make the environment clean.
