The name Avicii is enough to evoke the sounds and images of the finest house music and EDM. The Swedish artist, whose real name is Tim Berling, was well known for his beautiful music in the form of songs such as Wake Me Up, which is the eighth most downloaded song in the United States of America.
His sudden death at the young age of just 28, in Muscat, Oman, has left the entire music industry in a deep shock and with a kind of vacuum that perhaps no other artiste can fill. Perhaps he just could not strike a balance between his love for music and his struggle with the spotlight and constant scrutiny. He had earlier developed acute pancreatitis due to excessive alcohol consumption.
However, there is no denying that the music he created was unlike no other artists’. The catch and light lyrics, paired with the positive vibes of the music, made him an undoubtedly standout among the myriad of artists in the genres of house music and EDM.
Understandably, many of the world’s biggest names in the music industry and even the entertainment industry as a whole, have expressed their grief over his death, along with the fans, who are in absolute shock. Karlie Kloss, Ruby Rose and many other celebrities have expressed their sadness over his death. Many prominent musicians have honoured the memory of one of the greatest DJs in the world. Kygo has called him ‘a true musical genius’ in an extremely emotional tribute at the Coachella music festival. Maluma, Dua Lipa, Liam Payne, Charlie Puth and Imagine Dragons have also expressed their condolences.
Fellow electronic music artists such as Calvin Harris, Dillon Francis, Zed and Marshmello, to name a few, have also posted emotional tributes on Social Media.
Even though we lost him ‘too young and too soon’, as Dua Lipa summed it up, his music we live on forever. His music will continue to make us feel good and give us the dose of positivity when we are in a bad spot.
