So, summers are here and you apply for an internship in hopes of making your summer productive. After a lot of trials (and errors), you finally manage to get an internship. And you get ready on your first day, excited, nervous, ready to conquer the world. But then you go there and all your hopes are crushed. You are treated like dirt, everyone ignores you and you just sit there with a bored look on your face. Well, here are three things to save you from boredom.
Observe: If you can’t learn what they do by trying it yourself, you can atleast learn what they do by observing. And that doesn’t mean you keep staring like a total creep. This means you watch your seniors, observe how they work and note how they get their work done. Learn how they interact with each other and apply all your learning later.
Research: If you are stuck in an office with no work and a reliable internet connection, do not waste this time by listening to songs or playing games. Instead, use this time to research. Catch up on the latest news or dig up old research journals. You could even use this time to pick up some life-changing skills.
Sleep: Well, this is my favorite alternative so far. As Mesut Barazany says, “Your future depends on your dreams. So go to sleep.” If everybody is already ignoring you, you might as well make use of this privacy and quietly doze off in a corner. Sleeping will rejuvenate your body and energize you enough to catch up with your partying as soon as you’re let out of the office.
If your case is beyond salvage by even these three options, you might just want to head out and search for a better internship.
