Former Bollywood actress, Tanushree Dutta had alleged actor, Nana Patekar for sexually harassing her while shooting for a song on the sets of the film ‘Horn Ok Pleassss’ in 2008. This triggered the #MeToo movement in India. Currently, the #MeToo Movement has gained momentum and names of many other celebs are being called out in the open like Sajid Khan, Anu Malik, Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl and so on.
The allegations have been brought up after a decade since the incident took place and it has shocked the entire nation. Several actors and actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Twinkle Khanna, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma, and Parineeti Chopra have voiced their opinions in support of Tanushree.
However, recently there has been an interesting turn of events when Rakhi Sawant made some shocking claims, of Tanushree Dutta raping her multiple times, in a press conference. Rakhi had replaced the latter in the song after she left. It has spurred a slanging match between both. “My parents always told me to choose my friends very carefully and I learned to live by that advice. I simply avoid at all cost people I think are not good for me. So it’s disgusting when uncouth, uneducated, dirty, downmarket, classless, characterless, perverted, degraded abominations like Rakhi Sawant ever claim to be friends with me” was the reply of Tanushree on Rakhi’s accusations.
Dutta has filed a Rs 10 Crore defamation suit against Rakhi Sawant for false accusations of consuming drugs and rape against her. To get back on Tanushree, Rakhi Sawant has sued Dutta for causing damage to her reputation by making derogatory statements about her. In her suit, Rakhi has claimed that Tanushree ‘upon her return to the limelight, made unwholesome and deeply derogatory statements due to which she has incurred huge financial losses and has suffered a dent on her reputation, which had taken years to build’. Sawant has asked for 25 paise in compensation to the losses.
The incident in question should be investigated and the culprit should be punished. Justice should be provided to the deserved ones. But, to take the wrong advantage of #MeToo campaign just to tarnish someone’s image is not acceptable.
