Two years ago on this day, after 75 days on hospitalisation, the beloved J Jayalalithaa died of cardiac arrest.

It was a day of mourning today as people all across Tamil Nadu paid their respects to the late Chief Minister.

In Chennai, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the party which Jayalalithaa led from 1989 to 2016, conducted a peace march in her remembrance. Dressed mostly in black, they silently marched from Anna Salai to Marina beach which is where Jayalalithaa was laid to rest.

The march was led by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, who are the current leaders of the AIADMK, and other senior cabinet ministers.

Many others including actor and producer Vishal K visited the memorial to pay their respects. Television actor and sports commentator, Sumnath Raman took a moment to state the massive influence Jayalalithaa has had on many.

Other politicians including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the DMK member Kanimozhi tweeted their tributes.
