Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, Sridevi worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films before entering Hindi films. She started acting in the late 60s, but her performance in a Malayalam film Poombata won her the state award for best child artist.
Sridevi died on the 24th of February, 2018 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates what was supposedly due to a cardiac arrest. Her death was very sudden and highly unexpected. A loss, that is being mourned by the entire nation.
She was initially thought to have died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday, but had apparently drowned in the bathtub of her hotel in Dubai, reported the police there. The autopsy report has listed “accidental drowning” as the cause of death. In its certified twitter handle, the Dubai government’s media office said the case was being transferred to the “Dubai Public Prosecution” which will carry out the general legal procedures followed in such cases.
The reason for her collapse is still not known. Bobby Naqvi, The National Editor of Gulf News, told NDTV that the post-mortem report mentioned that there were “traces of alcohol in her blood”. According to the report the Gulf News said, the actor fell into the bathtub, lost consciousness and drowned.
It was reported by Khaleej Times that Sridevi had collapsed in the bathroom of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai, where the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah was being attended by her family. Around 7.30 pm, husband Boney Kapoor found her in the bathtub. He had dropped off their daughter Khushi in Mumbai and returned Dubai with the intention of surprising his wife. The couple had intended to go out for dinner.
The ambulance was called in, but the medical staff failed to revive her. Around 9 pm, the police arrived at the scene. The actor was then transferred to a hospital, where she was declared dead by the doctors at 11 pm.
Another account, however, says that she was supposedly found unconscious in the bathroom by the hotel staff.
