Sri Lankan cricketer’s Father shot dead



The father of Sri Lankan cricketer all-rounder, Dhananjaya de Silva was shot dead in Columbo on Thursday. The player’s father Ranjan de Silva was a local politician of Columbo. He was the also the father of fmr SLPP Dehiwala-Mt Lavinia Councillor Savithra de Silva.

Initial police investigations revealed that Ranjan was shot at in Gnanendra Road (Sea Beach Road), Ratmalana ( a suburb of the capital Colombo) close to his resident at around 8.30 pm by unidentified gunmen. The investigation is underway but no arrests have been made yet. There were also two other individuals who received injuries due to the shooting. Along with Ranjan, the two were also admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.

Dhananjaya de Silva quits his official tour after he come to know about his father’s murder. Cricket officials said, ” 26-year-old de Silva withdrew from the tour that involves three Test matches”. Presently, there was no official word from the board of cricket on who will replace de Silva.Sri Lanka will also miss opener Dimuth Karunaratne who fractured a finger while batting in the nets earlier this month as he prepared for a limited-overs domestic tournament.
