Gambling has been practised from ancient times. Its roots can be traced back to Mahabharat. Though there are no kings and kingdoms, gambling has seeped its way into our present-day society in various forms, like poker games, sports or online gambling. Somehow, betting always invokes interest in men.

Well, many might not be familiar with the term ‘online gambling but you all might have seen ads of gambling sites with images of poker and rummy. Gambling is all based upon chance. Online gambling is referred to the practice of gambling using the Internet. Here, they bet upon an outcome and/or win money for it. Advancement of technology has changed the manners and rules of gambling, but nonetheless, it is practised.

Traditionally, people with huge wealth used to gamble. But thanks to the Internet, now people from any class or region can take part in gambling and one need not go to any casino or play cards in streets or clubs and fear the police. Though online gambling had developed only a decade back, its popularity is worth to be mentioned. In case you didn’t know, it is one of the fastest growing industries in the business world.

Having said that, there are so many gambling sites online that it is hard to assess the fake ones from the legitimate ones and you might find yourself quickly bankrupt if you wager without knowing for sure.  Also, unlike casinos where you play against actual people, in case of online gambling, there are many times when you are playing against a computer bot (web robot) and the stakes of losing can be pretty high.

Negative Impacts Of Gambling

The only advantage of gambling which I find is that it provides huge revenue to the government and businessmen. Gambling has many negative effects on an individual. With the development of electronic gambling, the number of gambling addicts has multiplied.

  1. Loss of money

Since gambling involves money, it might cause financial troubles to the player. Though the prospect of earning a huge sum appeals a person, it all depends on pitch and toss and sheer luck. So there are chances you might end up losing all your money by continuing gambling.

  1. Gambling Addictions

Well, though gambling is just meant for leisure and entertainment, it could end up being addictive just like gaming. It could be ignored initially. However, these might create negative effects on the psychological mind in the long run. It could even lead to suicide, murder or other violent acts.

  1. Affect Gambler’s personal as well as social life

Gamblers would find no time to concentrate in other activities. Therefore, they generally neglect their personal and social life. This would in turn affect their job, relationships and well-being.

  1. Health Issues

The gamblers are mostly diagnosed with mental health problems like anxiety, depression, stress and mood disorders. This is due to the pressure exerted on them.

Thus we could conclude that electronic gambling and gaming are more damaging than its traditional ways. If you are one of those gambling addicts, well it’s not too late to get out of the mess. I don’t encourage gambling of any kind, let alone online gambling.
