After the name of Mughalsarai railway station in the name of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in UP, now Allahabad’s name will soon be called Prayagraj. On the issue of change of name of Allahabad of Sangam Nagari of Ganga-Yamuna in this regard, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday that efforts are being made to change Allahabad’s name to Prayagraj soon. He said, “I feel that the Governor has also given his consent when we talk about Prayag, where there is a confluence of two rivers, it becomes a Prayag in its own right. You will find Vishnu Prayag, Dev Prayag, Rudra Prayag, Dev Prayag, Karn Prayag in Uttarakhand .”
The Chief Minister said, “The two holy rivers of the Himalayas – the confluence of the Ganga and the Yamuna – is on this holy land, then it is a natural king of all Prayag, hence it is called Prayagraj. And our effort will be to get the name of this city very soon.
With this campaign, the discussion of changing the name of the cities has started again. In the context of the cities, the most recent case is of Gurujram. Two years ago the city of Haryana was named Gurugram from Gurgaon. Critics say that this practice of changing the names of cities is part of the conscience of the people under which the names of the places should be based on their past and culture. That is why the Union already addresses many cities with their historical names. Critics add it to the context of the ‘foreign’ effects and the references to Indian history being renewed.
In July this year, BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy, in the Karnataka Youth Parliament, organized a program of 2018 in Karnataka, demanding the name of Ahmedabad, to revoke the issue again. Demand for the name of Ahmedabad named Karnavati is being done on the basis of the name of Hindu King Karan Dev. It is said that in the 11th century they established this city only.
On the same lines, the name of Aurangabad city of Maharashtra is named as Shanbhaji Nagar and Hyderabad, on the basis of Goddess Bhagyalakshmi, Bhagyanagar is being sought. Shanbaji was the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The Mughals had captured and murdered them. Shiv Sena has long been demanding the change of name of Aurangabad. In the 1990s when there was a Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra, its formal process was also completed, but the talk did not go beyond that. During the same government in 1996, Bombay (Bombay) was named as Mumbai on the basis of local Mumba Devi.
Bhojpal’s demand from Bhopal
In 2011, Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan government urged the state’s capital Bhopal to change the name of Bhojpal to Bhojpal from the center. In fact, that year, a demand was made to do so on the occasion of the completion of one thousand years of the enthronement of King Bhojpal. But the Congress-led UPA Government did not give its consent.

However, when the NDA government came under the leadership of BJP in 2014, it was immediately formalized that Bangalore was named after Bangalore. Along with this, the names of 11 cities of Karnataka were also changed. The NDA government has changed the name of Aurangzeb Road from Delhi to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
State names change
The latest example of the change in the names of states is Odisha and Puducherry. In 2011, formally changed their English spelling to Orissa from Odisha and Puducherry in Puducherry. On the lines of this, the demand for Kerala to be changed to Kerala is rising.
