Dumpling cold water on all the expectations of the people from India, Anukreethy Vasant dropped out of the race toward the Miss World title early. The grand final of one of the most coveted beauty pageants of the world, Miss World rook place yesterday in coastal city of Sanya, China. Although she managed to reach the top 30, giving hope to her countrymen for a quick succession to the crowd after Manushi Chhillar, India’s very own Miss World 2017, she couldn’t reach the top 12.
Following her early exit, Manushi passed on her crown to Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce de Leon, who became the 68th Miss World after her crowning. Ponce is a 26 year old Mexican model and volunteer, with a degree in international business. She volunteers for “Migrantes en el Camino” and is on the board of directors of a rehab centre for girls, according to the Miss World website.
Thailand’s Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan, a 20-year-old studying business administration was crowded the first runner up of the contest. Along with the crowning of Miss World, the continental queens for 2018 were also selected by the judges. Below are the names of the chosen continental queens along with the country they represent –
- Miss World Europe – Maria Vasilevich (Belarus)
- Miss World Caribbean – Kadijah Robinson (Jamaica)
- Miss World Americas – Vanessa Ponce De Leon (Mexico)
- Miss World Africa – Quiin Abenakyo (Uganda)
- Miss World Asia and Oceania – Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan (Thailand).
