Yeddyurappa Resigns

The most awaited Karnataka floor test was held today at 4pm.Though the BJP won 104 seats, it was eight short of the majority mark of 111 after one of its legislators was picked as the speaker for today.

Newly-appointed Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has resigned after being appointed the CM just two days ago.

He later met Governor Vajubhai Vala and submitted his resignation while JDS’ HD Kumaraswamy will be taking oath as the next Karnataka CM on Monday.Soon after making the announcement, The JDS and Congress leaders announced that they are now waiting for the Governor to call them. During his speech, Yeddyurappa was briefly interrupted by former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah who asked the former to move the trust motion while BS Yeddyurappa went on with his attacks. He said, “I don’t do party politics. I do people’s politics.” Yeddyurappa also said, “My only aim to form the government was to serve the farmers and Dalits who were suffering.”

” I am not moving this motion. I will go straight away to Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation.”

Mr. Yeddyurappa gave an emotional speech in the House and said he was not moving the motion, but instead would go to the Governor to submit his resignation.

BJP, with 104 seats, was 7 short of the required number of 111.

The Congress with 78 MLAs, the JD(S) with 36 and three others were also individually not in a position to form the government.

But with BJP now exiting the picture, the Congress-JD(S) combine has 114 seats, more than the required number.

JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy said the Congress-JD(S) combine was not in a hurry to form the goverment, according to PTI.

We are waiting for invitation from governor,” Mr. H.D. Kumaraswamy said.

I’ve been given a mandate of 104 seats, people have given their blessings. we were only 40 in outgoing assembly. But people of State have rejected Congress and their nos have been reduced. Everybody in the state knows this,”  Yeddyurappa says.

“We got the people’s mandate, but we did not get it in full. Congress did not get it, JD(S) did not get it.”he added.
