On the eve of India’s 69th Republic Day, the government announced 85 Padma awards. Of these, 3 were Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 73 Padma Shri.

Sixteen awardees were foreigners, PIOs, or NRIs, while three of the awards were conferred subsequently.

Former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh and multiple world champion cueist Pankaj Advani were conferred with the country’s third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan.

The awards are conferred by the President at a ceremonial function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, usually around March-April.
