Winter Olympics had just now got over and the whole world is yet again ready to witness the valour and sportsmanship of athletes a at the 21st Commonwealth Games. The 21st Commonwealth Games is about to begin shortly and is definitely going to be the talk of the world. It is being hosted by Gold Coast City of Queensland, Australia. The opening ceremony will take place on April 4, 2018 and the closing ceremony on April 5, 2018 at the Carrara Stadium, Gold Coast City.

Gold Coast City is the major tourist attraction centre in Australia and millions of tourists visit the place every year. The place is ideal for beaches, surfing and other recreational activities. In the year 2008, Sri Lanka and Australia had bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Australia won the bid with the difference of 16 votes from various countries.

This is the fifth time Australia is hosting the event after the 1938, 1962, 1982 and 2006 Commonwealth games.
A total of 71 nations will be participating for 275 events under 19 sport categories. 6600 athletes are expected to take part and the Commonwealth village has been constructed with all facilities for them in the host city. 1252 permanent dwellings have been built to cater to the needs of the athletes.

The motto of the 2018 Commonwealth Games is “Share the dream”. 1500 medals were designed for the winners. The medal will hold the design of sand lines which shift with every tide and wave representing sportsmanship and the evolution of successful athletes.
Australia is the nation which has won most number of medals in the Commonwealth Games History. The total medal counts to 2218, 2006 being the year during which 221 medals were won by Australians in the Commonwealth Games.
