She and Anil Kapoor, her real-life brother-in-law have had one of the most memorable on-screen pairings.

Her most remarkable films include Sadma, Himmatwala, Chandni, Mr. India, Gumrah, Nagina, ChaalBaaz, Tohfa, and Mawali among others. She took a 15-year long gap after Judaai, after which she starred in English Vinglish and won the hearts of many. She last appeared in MOM in 2017. But her last film will be in Zero, starring Shah Rukh Khan and to be released in December of this year.

Many actors and actresses tweeted about her death to express their condolences.
