There is some huge news for fans of “Big Bang Theory. “ Big Bang Theory” is television’s top comedy, a major feat for a show in its 10th season. It has been confirmed that CBS has ordered a Big Bang Theory prequel series centering a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, who is portrayed by Jim Parsons in the flagship series. Titled Young Sheldon, the half-hour comedy stars Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) in the title role, and is set to premiere in the 2017-18 TV season. Ready to meet the 8-year-old actor who will play young Sheldon?
The brains behind the original The Big Bang Theory are also spearheading the prequel. As Deadline reports, series co-creator and executive producer, Chuck Lorre is set to serve as a producer on Young Sheldon, as will Big Bang‘s show runner, Steve Molaro. Lorre’s fellow Big Bang co-creator and executive producer, Bill Prady is also expected to be involved in some capacity. Also Jon Favreau, is set to direct the premiere.
The spin-off created by these masterminds will follow Sheldon Cooper at age 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.. None of the original The Big Bang Theory cast is expected to be involved in the possible spinoff, with one notable exception. Parsons, who plays Sheldon on the flagship series, will reportedly join the project behind the camera. He is expected to serve as an executive producer on the spinoff, alongside Lorre and Molaro. In addition to producing the project, Parsons is also set to narrate the comedy as “Adult Sheldon.”
In another bit of meta-casting, Zoe Perry will play Sheldon’s mother – a role portrayed by Perry’s real-life mother, Laurie Metcalf, on Big Bang Theory. Lance Barber will play Sheldon’s father, and Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan will play his siblings.
