Between You and Me

Between You and Me
  • Amal Raju

Between you and me,

There lies a secret

That I’ll love you more than you’ll ever know

The aloofness merely a show

The neglect simply a shadow

Of what truly lies deep inside.

The secret is laughably one-sided

Being pushed aside

Every time it arose.

And now?

When it burns deep within my core,

When ignoring it more

Brought blind spots to my vision,

The light of your supernova

Has faded away.

And while I had dreaded the burn of your ray,

The deep desire mockingly laughs

Of how it’d feel

For my soul to be burnt for real.

In more ways than one

Better it ended soon

For I had desperately grasped your light

Ignoring what was within.

But like a child

Who dreams of a treat that had him riled

I wish for your caressing light

To fondle and whisper as those nights

When I slept peacefully

Believing in your presence trustfully.

I’ll love you more than you’ll ever know,

And there lies a secret,

Between you and me.
