There is a proper cliché of people asking about “travelling solo”. There’s nothing quite like discovering a new place on your own. Some people shy away from travelling alone and some just embrace it. So, what is that it makes an attractive option for people? What are the advantages of going alone?
The most important thing is, travelling solo can be very “selfish”. Travelling by others means making plans with others. The itinerary you set and all the decision you make is only yours. You don’t need to worry about any person or any group. Basically, there’s no need to compromise, there are no arguments, no second thoughts about what other wants or needs. You are just completely selfish.
If you noticed that when you travel alone, people are more likely to start a conversation with you? Travelling alone can make you as social or as antisocial as one wants to be. For some reason, people stay away from groups of travellers because they seem to be exclusive and different. Whereas the lone traveller looks ready to connect with new people and is more likely to engage in a conversation. And that’s how you make new friends.
Being on your own in a new place serves as permission to slow down, without distractions you’d feel buzzing around you when travelling with others. Travelling alone is the perfect way to challenge you to leave your comfort zone. Also, travelling makes you more confident. Yes, sometimes you feel lonely, but that is the one problem that you will solve yourself and more empowered to take on other challenges.
When you travel alone, you are definitely more flexible with decisions you make. You are free to change your plans whenever you want to. You free to sleep as long as you want to. Actually, you are open to change and you will welcome it with your open arms.
To sum up, we should not be scared to set off on a solo journey. Travelling alone at first can be scary but it is so worth it and at the end of the day you will not regret it as it’s much more adventurous and challenging.
Be near it or far- you can go it alone!
